Cracking nights entertainment by the boys from 50/50
with two good sets of classic numbers , the guys grafted from start to finish which had a few more than normal up n dancing
We were even given the added pleasure on the vocalist & drummer trading places for a couple of numbers which was really well received
To say that the guys had said on the ROCK OF THE NORTH site they had`nt played for around 3 weeks you would`nt have thought so
the music was tight with hardly a bum note
great nights work guys!
.
will prob see them again up here @ morleys premier rock venue

The cross keys were treated to an excellent nights entertainment once again by the Bare-Essentials
comprising of music from as early as the Beatles & Stones ,reliving our teenage years, spot on with the Buzzcocks & Undertones,to the present with arctic monkeys ,kooks,. & the ever crowd favourites greenday
The boys put in two top knotch spots which were impeccable in everyway from vocals & guitar work to the excellent driving force of tosh on the drums. To say a couple of the guys were suffering from the dreaded coughs & colds.Jamie on vocals still gave 100%
they say the best things come in small packages, well in Jamie you've one hell of a powerful voice
If it was up to the locals, the boys would have had to play till the early hours of the morning or 'till their fingers bled ' ( thats cols words)
Their final number after 2 encores was Thin Lizzy's boys are back in town they rocked till they dropped.(got it in col haha) so as the lyric goes "spread the word around"
If you've not seen this group then get your arse down to the cross keys sat 12 may.
Any erics fans out there take note that Phil joins this band in march

Well another great night @ the keys with local boy band THE ERICS in attendance
.Think I'm just about running out of things to say about the boys

but just have to say they seem to have turned a corner for 2007 with lots of new material & of course the addition of little sexy dave
.
He seems to have slotted in fine n dandy & to say it was his first official gig you would`nt have known it
.
Paul was exceptional & had me cracking up a couple times with his now world famous witty comments & feeding back from the rest of the boys

Sam seemed a lot more healthy must be the viagra big dave supplied him & with little dave taking over bit more guitar work gives sam the added bonus of sinking an extra few pints

Dave was excellent as usuall with his pounding base & swift movement of foot across the floor
.
I thought high school went down really well & (cough) the elton john number was great

Gonna close now, fingers got cramp setting in

& just to mention a big thanks to big sexy dave for the work he puts into the cross keys site
.
till next week the old boy its good to be back Mav

HARD TO HANDLE
sat 27 jan 2006
,
Sat night saw the locals & a few of there friends well & truly entertained by the 5 members of HARD TO HANDLE who crambed in two excellent spots of classic numbers which appealed to everyones tastes
with some belting & cracking vocals to some great guitar & bass play supported by an ecceptional drummer who even managed to get into the act, taking up the vocals on one of three numbers
This is one hell of a close knit band that should be on top of everyones list to see if they are appearing @ a venue near you
hopefully it wont be too long before the are back @ the keys
Just like to say a big thanks to steve the bass player for saying hi & having a natter in the short time they had of a break & will hope to meet him again quite soon

RESURGENCE
Sat 20th Jan
.
The boys & girls from resurgence livenEd up a (sorry to say) rather below par bunch of peeps last night @ the keys, I must appologise myself for turning up late too ,the band did two hard working spots adding their own unique sound to such classics as rockin in the free world which i thought was as near as damit as you can get to the real macoy & radioheads classic creep, even slotting in a a bit of ramones i wana be sedated which had wifey tapping her feet
all in all good nights performace by the boys & girls
so stick resurgence on your to watch list as i dont think there will be many disapointments on that score
till my next ramblings !

We were treated to a good all round evenings entertainment by the grumpy old men @ the keys on sat night whose repertoire went across the full spectrom of many a rock covers from this established 3 peise gang
even had a visit to greenday land for one number ,by the end of the evening a few of the peeps were tapping there glasses & feet to their great sound & nifty guitar work
The grumpys come over as a band with no airs n graces and just love there music & the live & closeness of the pub atmosphere
all in all a great nights work
This is the second time ive seen the grumps and they're deffo a trio of boys that grow on you as the night goes on
thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings !

PISTON BROKE
SAT 7 JAN
.
Well the new year seems to got off to a cracking start with this sats band PISTON BROKE
from what i can gather i think they might be a cleckheaton based band as they seem to keep refering back to the wild west town
They came over as a well routined tight outfit in the great Lemmys Motorhead style
they played all motorheads best known numbers, and for those not the doctrine of Lemmy they then threw themselves into a lot of classic stuff from lizzy/led zep & even a sprinkling of mountain plus the cult before the had the peeps rocking with the great AC/DC numbers
a great biker boys band , they deffo kept a good cross keys crowd rocking to the end
catch you all laters

After our excellent supper we were treated to three great sessions from the evenings main attraction local band
(formally 11 rude noises)
.
they treated us to classics from a whole lots rosie to whole lot of love !
with a sprinkling of bon jovi, a few rock/roll numbers for the older peeps plus a touch of def leopard & ac/dc for our local angus lookalike
in all I would recomend a visit to see these boys in acton & am sure they will be back @ the keys preety soon

one fat spider
sat 23rd dec
.
sat night saw a reasonably turned out crowd being so near to xmas
wakefield band one fat spider did the honours for us down @ the keys with a good selection of covers from the artic monkeys to the buzzcocks plus a lot of the usual classic covers but i give them 9 out of 10 for slotting a lot of the new stuff into the material with one of my all time faves ever fallen in love with !
(god that takes me back to the pickwicks in dewsbury, the birth place of punk in the local area)
.
Spider are a four piece band with a exceptional lady on the bass ,wonder if BSD has met her? must tell him to google one fat spider
In between the songs the front man gave a very good impression of jokes in the chubby brown mode !
which did help to move the night along & by the end the band had few of the local peeps up n bopping
.
would deffo recommend giving these guys a look in
would make anyones night enjoyable

lO PEEPS
,
Well what can I say about last night down @ the cross-keys?
The boys from the erics were absolutely `f`in awesome & that's coming from someone who usually refrains from swearing coz I'm Church of England
,
The building was rocking even the nearly 100 year old roof slates were bouncing along to the guys generating power, couldn't fault them one bit, was good to see them get a couple of the other guys up to belt out a tune must say nicks rendition of teenage kicks was spot on sounded better that fergal sharkys version!
.
BIG PHILL was on fire even managed to get some arobics in on top of the seats
Paul was his usually powerful self & coming out with his world famous off the cuff quotes god he looked knackered @ the end (& I thought I was the original old git ) just joking Paul
Sam excellent as ever can this guy play a wrong note ! only the one`s he hands over the bar of course which he printed the day before !
& Dave was defo up for his !cough 40th ! really laid into the gig even when debagged missed who did it ? went outside on one of his legendary walkabouts while playing & downing a lager @ the same time lol
.
Just thanks again guys for a night to remember hope everything goes well with Phil on his new venture
